Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome (WFFS, PLOD1)
Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome (WFFS, PLOD1) is an inherited condition where a foal suffers from soft tissue abnormalities that cause extremely fragile and friable skin and hyper-extensible joints. The condition is fatal due to the high rate of infections of the lesions and skin tears. As the condition is untreatable, foals are usually euthanised within a few days after birth, if miscarriage does not occur aready before birth.
It is mandatory for all warmblood stallions to be WFFS gene tested in order to be appoved by the Finnish studbook.
The only way to avoid WFFS is to not pair two horses that carry the genetic mutation for WFFS. The only way to find out whether a horse is a carrier is through a genetic test.
We will deliver the results within 2 to 3 weeks after receiving the sample.
The price for a WFFS gene test is 80 € (VAT excluded).
