SynchroGait® GAIT KEEPER GENE TEST
The SynchroGait gait keeper (DMRT3) gene test is an easy way of finding out how well your horse can maintain coordination and rhythm in a high speed trot. When your goal is to breed and train successful trotters, it is important to know the genes of your horse – this is why we recommend testing race horses as well as breeding stallions and mares.
SynchroGait is a licensed product and Aavagen is one of the five authorised providers in the world.
The price for SynchroGait gene test is 300 € (VAT excluded).
We will deliver the results within 2 to 3 weeks after receiving the sample.

Your horse can have one the three combinations of gait keeper gene: AA, CA or CC. These combinations have varying effects in different horse breeds.
WARMBLOODS AND FINNHORSES
AA-horses
- Natural trotters
- Respond well to training
- Can start early on in races
- Can be sold/bought already as young to race use
CA-horses
- Not as good at maintaining coordination in high-speed trot as AA-horses
- Have potential to develop into successful trotters with persistent training
- Not as suitable for young horse races as AA horses
- Should not be sold/bought for racing use at a young age
CC-horses
- Prone to canter
- Difficulties coordinating fast trot
- Statistically worst racing results
- Should not be sold/bought for racing purposes
OTHER COLDBLOODS
CA- genotype
- Natural trotters
- Respond well to training
- Can start early on in races
- Can be sold/bought already as young to racing use
AA- genotype
- Prone to pace
- Can become successful race horses, but require persistent training
- Buying/selling decisions should be assessed carefully if done at early age
CC- genotype
- Prone to canter
- More disqualifications in 3-6 year olds than CA and AA -horses
- Improve with age
- When combined with an AA- horse, all the offspring will be CA
